2017 Rainforest Plant Identification Short Courses

These short course, presented by the Australian Tropical Herbarium and the Wet Tropics Management Authority, will introduce participants to the skills and resources needed for rainforest plant identification.  The course will be presented in two beautiful rainforest locations - Cape Tribulation and Paluma.  Particpants in each short course will receive a statement of attendance.

Course content

Targeted at the interested layperson, this three day introductory short course will cover:

  • What is a rainforest

  • How plants are named

  • Plant structure and terminology

  • A walking tour of nearby rainforest, and hands-on learning htrouhg indentification of local native plants.

  • A review of important rainforest plant families, and the features used to identify them in the field

Cost:  $670 with accommodation
$500 without accommodation

About the Course Co-ordinator:

 StuWorboys     Stuart Worboys, is a botanist with over 20 years experience across the rainforest and savanna ecosystems of northern Australia.  Throughout that period, he has maintained a close relationship with James Cook University, where he has lectured in botany and taught field plant identification at all levels.  Stuart brings his extensive knowledge of Australia's tropical flora and experience in teaching plant identification techniques to opening the world of rainforest botany lay and technical audiences

Cancellation Policy

A full refund will be given for cancellations made up to 72 hours (3 days) before course commencement. For cancellations less than 72 hours before course commencement (including no-shows) NO REFUND will be given UNLESS that place can be filled from the wait list, in which case a full refund will be given.

If fewer than five registrations are received the ATH reserves the right to cancel the course and will provide full refunds to registrants.
