Library collect

Did you know James Cook University Library’s Special Collections holds Australia’s largest assortment of rare and historic works that relate to North Queensland?

Our Special Collections department collects and preserves resources that have special significance to the area above latitude 22.5 in Queensland, which includes the Great Barrier Reef, as well as the Torres Strait and other islands.

JCU Library staff have curated an online repository of many of the works in the collection, which is called NQHeritage@JCU. This repository enables close engagement with these rare and fragile resources, by providing online access to a growing selection of items that are culturally and historically significant to North Queensland and the Tropics.

As this collection grows, the need for additional funding to preserve, store and digitise these important resources is vital. You can help continue this important work by making a donation to the JCU Library Fund today.
